The skies just got a little friendlier with these two history-making pilots.

This month, the friendly skies became even friendlier when Alaska Airlines made pretty awesome history.

After American Airlines Captain Tara Dillon-Wright joked with passengers about Mother's Day and other fun tidbits, she introduced her teammate, 1st Officer Mallory Cave, along with the amazing news.

Making Alaska Airlines history this morning! First Officer Mallory Cave and I serve as the very first all African-American female crew on Alaska Flt #361, San Francisco to Portland, OR. 👩🏽‍✈️👩🏽‍✈️

Posted by Tara Dillon Wright on Sunday, May 13, 2018

For the first time in the airline's history, the plane would be piloted by two black female pilots.

"Finally, you're sharing a pretty interesting piece of Alaska Airlines history this morning," she told passengers in the video. "You'll be piloted by two female African-American pilots for the first time in the airline's history."

The passengers of the Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 Flight #361, flying from San Francisco to Portland, burst into applause. Because really, who doesn't want to enjoy beautiful skies while being flown by awesome, history-making women?

The flight marks a much-needed change in the airline industry.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, more than 72% of air transportation employees are white and 60% are male.

Overall, a whopping 97%% of aircraft pilots are white, with female pilots making up a mere 5%. One study found that found that desegregation in airline flight decks hasn't progressed since 1980. Black pilots at a number of airlines have talked about the discrimination they've experienced, and women have also faced discrimination and harassment in the industry.

The disparity is frustrating, but Dillion-Wright and Cave's accomplishment shows that change is coming.

In spite of what the numbers say, women continue to make it clear that male-dominated industries are no longer "boys clubs."

In the 1920s, Bessie Coleman became the first African-American woman to hold a pilot's license. Her progress was inspiration for women around the world who wanted to work in male-dominated industries. Take, for instance, former Navy fighter pilot Tammie Jo Shults, who made an incredible life-saving emergency landing after debris from an engine failure broke open a plane window. Or Clara Lyde, Lauren Plagainos, and Wendy Tapia, all three of whom joined the Fire Department of New York, one of the most notoriously competitive fire departments in the country.

These women and countless others are showing us that they are not only good enough to be in these industries, they belong there.

Though we're far from equal racial and gender breakdowns in numerous career fields, many women are doing the work to get us there.

With leaders like Dillon-Wright and Cave, it's clear that we're getting even closer.

Irish people are using the #HomeToVote hashtag to share how far they’ve travelled for the abortion vote

There's only one hashtag you should search through on Twitter today: #hometovote. The Irish diaspora is mobilising by travelling thousands of miles to return to Ireland to vote in the abortion referendum. And they are tweeting about their journeys using the hashtag.

The tweets make for very moving reading indeed. Prepare yourself: you might just shed the odd tear while reading these people's inspiring efforts to make it home in time to vote.

On 25 May, people in Ireland will cast their votes to decide whether the 8th amendment of the country's constitution—which currently makes abortion illegal in almost all cases— will be repealed.

Twitter user Lauryn Canny wrote that she was travelling more than 5,000 miles from Los Angeles to Dublin in order to vote on 25 May. Canny wrote that she was "thinking of every Irish woman who has had to travel to access health care that should be available in their own country."

It's estimated that more than 150,000 women in Ireland have had to make journeys overseas to gain access to abortion services since the 8th amendment went into effect in 1983.

Another Twitter user tweeted a photo at Hanoi airport in Vietnam holding up a "repeal" sign as she waited to board her 20-hour flight home. She wrote that the flight cost her €800 (£700, $937).

When she got off the plane from Hanoi, her parents were there to greet her with a 'Repeal' sweater.

Another woman shared that she had travelled from Queensland, Australia, to Dublin in order to vote.

Others tweeted about the sights they witnessed at airports around the world. Becky Ann Leeman said she spotted around 35 young women waiting in the baggage reclaim area at Dublin Airport after travelling from Sydney, Australia.

Author Louise O'Neill tweeted that she had sponsored another woman's flight back so she could vote in the referendum.

Steve Wilson said he'd travelled for a total of 27.5 hours to make it back in time to cast his yes vote in the hope of repealing the 8th amendment.

Ciaran Gaffney travelled 13 hours from Buenos Aires to London before flying across the pond to Dublin. "No one here knows why I'm travelling. If this feels isolating for me, can't imagine how lonely it must be 4 her, travelling 2 the UK," wrote Gaffney, referring to women who travel to England to have abortions.

Parents of grownup children flying home to Ireland to cast their votes tweeted with pride at the great efforts their kids had gone to.

Noeleen McHugh posted a moving tweet about her eldest son, who was granted the right to get married in 2015 when Ireland legalised same sex marriage. "On Friday he'll return the favour and vote to give women the right to make decisions about their own bodies," wrote McHugh.

Twitter user Colette Kelleher tweeted that her son, who's a student, used his birthday money to buy a ticket home to Ireland.

Chris Coyle tweeted that his daughter was making a transatlantic journey and taking time off work without pay in oder to cast her yes vote.

Kudos to these incredibly inspiring people.

Legendary Investment Banker Richard Jenrette Left These 24 Rules for Success

Richard Jenrette, who co-founded the investment bank Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette in 1959, spent four decades on Wall Street. When he died last week from complications of cancer at the age of 89, he left behind on his desk 24 rules to succeed -- in finance, and in life. The list, titled “What I Learned,” was shared Sunday at an intimate memorial service for family and local friends in Charleston, South Carolina. Here’s what it said:

What I Learned (How to Succeed)
(and have a Long and Happy Life)

Click here to see the original, handwritten list.

  • Stay in the game. That’s often all you need to do – don’t quit. Stick around! Don’t be a quitter!
  • Don’t burn bridges (behind you)
  • Remember – Life has no blessing like a good friend!
    • You can’t get enough of them
    • Don’t leave old friends behind – you may need them
  • Try to be nice and say “thank you” a lot!
  • Stay informed/KEEP LEARNING!
  • Study -- Stay Educated. Do Your Home Work!! Keep learning!
  • Cultivate friends of all ages – especially younger
  • Run Scared -- over-prepare
  • Be proud -- no Uriah Heep for you! But not conceited. Know your own worth.
  • Plan ahead but be prepared to allow when opportunity presents itself.
  • Turn Problems into Opportunities. Very often it can be done. Problems create opportunities for change -- people willing to consider change when there are problems.
  • Present yourself well. Clean, clean-shaven, dress “classically” to age. Beware style, trends. Look for charm. Good grammar. Don’t swear so much -- it’s not cute.
  • But be open to change -- don’t be stuck in mud. Be willing to consider what’s new but don’t blindly follow it. USE YOUR HEAD - COMMON SENSE.
  • Have some fun - but not all the time!
  • Be on the side of the Angels. Wear the White Hat.
  • Have a fall-back position. Heir and the spare. Don’t leave all your money in one place.
  • Learn a foreign language.
  • Travel a lot -- around the world, if possible.
  • Don’t criticize someone in front of others.
  • Don’t forget to praise a job well done (but don’t praise a poor job)
  • I don’t like to lose -- but don’t be a poor loser if you do.
  • It helps to have someone to love who loves you (not just sex).
  • Keep your standards high in all you do.
  • Look for the big picture but don’t forget the small details.

Rocker Dave Grohl Wants To Apologize To The World For Massive Jerk Trump

The Latest: Accuser Calls Bill Cosby ‘A Raping Monster’

Norristown, Pa. (AP) -- The Latest on Bill Cosby's sexual assault retrial (all times local):

10:40 p.m.

One of Bill Cosby's accusers says he's "a raping monster" and she looks forward to seeing him "in handcuffs on his way to prison" following his conviction on charges he sexually assaulted a woman at his suburban Philadelphia home.

Louisa Moritz says Cosby "has groomed, then raped, then threatened so many" women. She says he raped her in a dressing room of "The Tonight Show" in the 1970s.

Another Cosby accuser is actor and former bodybuilder Lou Ferrigno's (fur-IHG'-nohz) wife, Carla Ferrigno. She says she's "so happy" to learn about Cosby's convictions.

Cosby was accused of drugging and molesting a woman at his mansion in 2004. He has denied the allegations but was convicted on Thursday and could get several years in prison.

___

6:50 p.m.

Thousands of people on Twitter are crediting comedian Hannibal Buress for starting the avalanche of accusations that led to Bill Cosby's conviction on charges he drugged and molested a woman at his suburban Philadelphia home.

Buress called Cosby a rapist on a stand-up comedy stage in 2014 and encouraged the audience to Google it. Cellphone video of the moment went viral. Soon the allegations against Cosby became common knowledge, and his accusers were galvanized.

Cosby has denied the allegations but was convicted Thursday and could get up to 10 years in prison on each of the three counts of aggravated indecent assault.

Buress has been silent about the Cosby verdict. But social media is anything but silent about it.

TV comedy writer Travon Free tweets someone should buy Buress a drink every day from now on. Political commentator John Podhoretz tweets "Hannibal Buress changed history."

___

5:30 p.m.

Bill Cosby's alma mater says it will reconsider an honorary degree awarded to the comedian more than two decades ago.

Temple University in Philadelphia made the announcement Thursday after a jury found Cosby guilty of drugging and molesting a Temple employee in 2004.

A school spokesman says the verdict "provides additional facts for the university to consider" with respect to the honorary degree.

Cosby received his bachelor's from Temple and served on its board of trustees for decades before resigning in 2014. He received the honorary degree in 1991.

Board of Trustees Chairman Patrick O'Connor says he will recuse himself from discussions on the honorary degree. O'Connor represented Cosby in 2005 when he first faced allegations of sexual assault.

Dozens of other colleges have already revoked honors given to Cosby.

___

3:55 p.m.

A prosecutor says Bill Cosby showed his true colors when he went on an expletive-laced tirade after his conviction on sexual assault charges.

Cosby called District Attorney Kevin Steele an "a--hole" in court after Steele asked the judge to revoke the 80-year-old comedian's bail and send him to jail. Cosby remains free.

Steele tells reporters Thursday the outburst showed that Cosby's good-guy persona was just an act, and "we got to see who he really was."

Cosby was convicted of drugging and assaulting Andrea Constand in 2004.

Constand's lawyer, Dolores Troiani, thanked prosecutors and investigators for their diligence and praised Constand for her courage. She says, "Although justice was delayed, it was not denied."

___

3:35 p.m.

A TV network says it is yanking all reruns of "The Cosby Show" after Bill Cosby's conviction on sexual assault charges.

Bounce TV said Thursday it is pulling the show from its schedule.

"The Cosby Show" aired on the network as recently as Thursday morning.

Atlanta-based Bounce, which caters to black viewers, is available in more than 99 million homes across the United States. It airs a mix of reruns and original series like "Saints & Sinners."

Cosby was convicted on Thursday of drugging and molesting a woman at his home outside Philadelphia in 2004.

___

3:25 p.m.

A prosecutor says the jury that convicted Bill Cosby of sexual assault has delivered justice to the 80-year-old comedian's chief accuser.

District Attorney Kevin Steele praised Andrea Constand as the "first courageous person" to go public with her allegations that Cosby drugged and molested her.

Cosby was convicted Thursday. His lawyer promised to appeal.

Some 60 women have come forward to accuse Cosby of sexual misconduct going back five decades. Five other accusers testified against him at the trial.

Steele says Cosby was "a man who had evaded this moment for far too long."

___

2:50 p.m.

Bill Cosby's lawyer says the "fight is not over" after the 80-year-old comedian's conviction on sexual assault charges.

Tom Mesereau spoke Thursday outside the suburban Philadelphia courthouse where a jury found that Cosby drugged and molested a woman at his home in 2004.

Mesereau says Cosby will appeal his conviction on three counts of aggravated indecent assault. Each count carries a maximum of 10 years in prison. He'll be sentenced in 60 to 90 days.

Cosby said nothing to reporters but acknowledged the crowd on the courthouse steps, then gave a thumbs-up as his car pulled away.

___

2:35 p.m.

A lawyer for some of Bill Cosby's accusers says "justice has been done" after the comedian's conviction on sexual assault charges.

Gloria Allred represents three of the five additional accusers who testified that Cosby drugged and molested them. Cosby's lawyers painted the women as home-wreckers and liars who made up their allegations in a bid for money and fame.

Allred spoke Thursday outside the suburban Philadelphia courthouse where Cosby was convicted. She says her clients are grateful to the jury for seeing past "his defense attorney's lies."

Cosby accuser Janice Baker-Kinney, who alleges he drugged and raped her in 1982, says in a statement she's relieved "this toxic chain of silence has been broken" and says the women can move forward "with heads held high."

___

2:10 p.m.

Bill Cosby is lashing out at prosecutors after a jury convicted him of three counts of aggravated indecent assault.

Cosby stood up and erupted after jurors left the courtroom. He used an expletive to refer to District Attorney Kevin Steele, who was arguing to revoke Cosby's bail. Cosby shouted, "I'm sick of him!"

The judge ruled that Cosby will remain free pending sentencing.

Cosby was convicted Thursday of drugging and molesting a woman 14 years ago.

The 80-year-old entertainer stared straight ahead as the verdict was read. His chief accuser, Andrea Constand, remained stoic. Shrieks erupted in the courtroom and some of his other accusers whimpered and cried.

Judge Steven O'Neill told the panel of seven men and five women that it was "an extraordinarily difficult case." He says the jurors "sacrificed in the service of justice."

___

1:50 p.m.

Bill Cosby has been convicted of drugging and molesting a woman in the first big celebrity trial of the #MeToo era.

A jury outside Philadelphia convicted the "Cosby Show" star of three counts of aggravated indecent assault on Thursday. The guilty verdict came less than a year after another jury deadlocked on the charges.

Cosby was charged with violating Temple University employee Andrea Constand at his suburban Philadelphia home in 2004. His lawyer called Constand a "con artist" who leveled false accusations against Cosby so she could sue him.

Cosby could get up to 10 years in prison on each of the counts.

Dozens of women have come forward in recent years to say he drugged and assaulted them. Five of the other accusers testified against him at the retrial.

The Associated Press does not typically identify people who say they are victims of sexual assault unless they grant permission. Constand has done so.

___

1:25 p.m.

The jury is heading back to the courtroom and Bill Cosby's defense team is saying there's a verdict in his sexual assault retrial.

The panel of seven men and five women have been deliberating about 14 hours.

The 80-year-old comedian is accused of drugging and violating a woman at his suburban Philadelphia home in 2004.

He's charged with three counts of aggravated indecent assault. A conviction could put him in prison for up to 10 years on each count.

Prosecutors used Cosby's past admissions about drugs and sex as well as the testimony of five other women to help bolster accuser Andrea Constand's allegations. Cosby's lawyers argued Constand leveled false accusations against Cosby so she could sue him and extract a huge civil settlement.

It's the only criminal case to arise from allegations from more than 60 women.

The Associated Press does not typically identify people who say they are victims of sexual assault unless they grant permission. Constand has done so.

___

10:50 a.m.

The judge in Bill Cosby's sexual assault retrial says the six alternate jurors will get an hour with the courthouse comfort dog before being sent back to their hotel.

Judge Steven O'Neill said Thursday he planned to meet with the alternates to "let them know they're still important." After O'Neill mentioned the dog, Cosby stood up at the defense table and made a comical, barking-like motion with his mouth.

The alternate jurors are being kept away from the main panel of seven men and five women deliberating Cosby's fate.

The jury spent an hour listening to a court stenographer read back the testimony of defense witness Marguerite Jackson before they resumed talks.

Cosby is charged with drugging and molesting a woman in

2004. He says the woman consented.

___

10:15 a.m.

Jurors at Bill Cosby's sexual assault retrial are having the testimony of the star defense witness read back to them.

The jury is back for Day 2 of deliberations. The panel of seven men and five women started its day Thursday by reviewing the testimony of Marguerite Jackson, who says Cosby's chief accuser spoke of framing a celebrity for the money.

Jackson is an academic adviser at Temple University, where Constand worked as a women's basketball administrator. Jackson testified that Constand told her she could fabricate sexual assault allegations and "get that money" from a lawsuit. Jackson's testimony bolstered Cosby's efforts to show Constand made up the allegations against him to extort a big civil settlement.

Cosby is accused of drugging and molesting Constand in

2004. He says it was consensual.

The Associated Press doesn't typically identify people who say they're victims of sexual assault unless they grant permission, which Constand has done.

___

8:45 a.m.

Bill Cosby has arrived at a suburban Philadelphia courthouse where jurors are deliberating in the comedian's sexual assault retrial.

The 80-year-old Cosby arrived on Thursday and said "good morning" twice as he entered the courthouse.

The jury of seven men and five women will start their second day of weighing charges by revisiting the testimony of a star defense witness who cast doubt on accuser Andrea Constand's credibility.

Marguerite Jackson's testimony that Constand once spoke of framing a prominent person to score a big payday will be read back to the jury when court resumes.

The jurors completed a marathon, 10-hour session on Wednesday that failed to produce a verdict.

___

12:25 a.m.

Jurors in Bill Cosby's sexual assault retrial are kicking off a second day of deliberations by revisiting the testimony of a star defense witness who cast doubt on accuser Andrea Constand's credibility.

Marguerite Jackson's testimony that Constand once spoke of framing a prominent person to score a big payday will be read back to the jury when court resumes outside Philadelphia on Thursday.

A marathon, 10-hour first day of deliberations failed to yield a verdict in the first big celebrity trial of the #MeToo era.

The exhausted panel called it a night after rehearing excerpts from Cosby's old deposition testimony, including his admission he gave quaaludes to women he wanted to have sex with in the 1970s.

The Associated Press doesn't typically identify people who say they're victims of sexual assault unless they grant permission, which Constand has done.

Man to Spanish speakers at New York restaurant: ‘My next call is to ICE’

(CNN)A man berated employees and customers for speaking Spanish in a New York restaurant, describing them as undocumented and threatening to call immigration officials in a rant captured on video.

The video starts with a man in a white collared shirt confronting employees and customers in the restaurant.
"Your staff is speaking Spanish to customers when they should be speaking English," the man says, holding a white iPhone and pointing at the Spanish speakers for emphasis.
"Every person I listen to: He spoke it, he spoke it, she's speaking it. This is America!" he says.
Someone in the background interrupts him and calls him ignorant. Others hurl expletives at him.
"Yeah, this is America. So ignorant," another person tells him as laughter breaks out.
A former client identified the man to CNN as Manhattan attorney Aaron Schlossberg.

    Bystanders act

The man continues to express his displeasure to an employee and threatens to call Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials.
"My guess is they're not documented. So my next call is to ICE to have each one of them kicked out of my country," he says.
"If they have the balls to come here and live off my money, I pay for their welfare. I pay for their ability to be here. The least they can do ... is speak English."
He then tells the employee, "If you intend on running a place in Midtown Manhattan, your staff should speak English. Not Spanish."
A woman tries to engage the man just before he walks out. He turns around and says, "Honey, I'm calling ICE."
"Call ICE!" the woman shoots back. Before leaving, he tells the woman, "Maybe you shouldn't eat that sandwich, take a break from the food."
The woman yells back, "Maybe you should get hit by a car," as the man storms out of the restaurant.

    'What a big man'

In a Facebook post, Suazo said his wife and her best friend were talking to a waiter in Spanish when the man butted in and angrily demanded that they speak English.
"What a big man talking down to couple of women and a helpless employee," he posted. "I wish someone tells me I can't speak in my native language! First of all they (weren't) talking to you."
Emily Serrano, who eats lunch at Fresh Kitchen at least three times a week, said she was shocked by what she heard, so she pulled out her phone and recorded the tail end of the incident.
"I am sorry he wasn't taught to have love (for) all mankind," Serrano told CNN. "I wish him the best and hope that he can see why he needs to change his way of thinking, that we all have feeling and emotions and are no different because we are Latinos."
The video had been viewed 4.4 million times by early Thursday, with some identifying the man as a lawyer with an office near the restaurant.
On Thursday, Corporate Suites, the company that operates the business center where Schlossberg's law office is located, said it was terminating its agreement with him.
"We found Mr. Schlossberg's statements offensive and contrary to our community norms," Corporate Suites President Hayim Alan Grant said in a statement. Grant said Schlossberg did not have full-time office space with Corporate Suites, but the company provided mail and phone services for his business and Schlossberg had access to the center to meet with clients.
CNN has called and left messages with Schlossberg but has not heard back. After the incident, people inundated the law firm's social media accounts with messages. Local tabloid New York Daily News featured an image of him on its front page of Thursday's edition.
In an email, Fresh Kitchen said the store is a public area for breakfast and lunch and welcomes everyone from all types of cultures.
Everyone has a mind of his own, the company said, "But in (a) public area, disturbing others or making (a) comment like that is not right at all."
Congressman Adriano Espaillat told CNN that he and Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. filed a formal complaint against Schlossberg with the NY State Unified Court System, seeking to have his law license suspended until he "amends his actions."
Espaillat said Schlossberg had violated Rule 8.4, which outlines professional conduct.
"He clearly has done that, and his behavior, his rant was xenophobic and racist," Espaillat said.
In what appeared to be a reference to the incident, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio tweeted that the city's strength was its diversity.
"It's what makes this city great. The 8.6 million people who call this city home speak more than 200 languages -- they're all New Yorkers and they're all welcome here," de Blasio said Wednesday.
According to the US Census Bureau, 49% of New Yorkers over age 5 speak a language other than English.

    A previous incident

The Fresh Kitchen run-in apparently was not the first such outburst from the man.
Willie Morris, a 34-year-old consultant and adviser for tech companies, said he recognized him from a similar encounter on Manhattan's Fifth Avenue in October 2016.
Morris said he was walking down the street when a man in the opposite direction made eye contact with him, sped up and made a beeline for him.
"He immediately ... starts yelling mostly racist and xenophobic stuff," Morris said. "I was so shocked, I've lived in NYC for five years and have never had anything like this happen. I was waiting for someone to jump out and scream, 'Gotcha!' "
Morris posted video of the incident, along with his own commentary, to YouTube the next day. In the video, a man can be seen asking Morris, "What country are you from?" and then saying: "I'm going to call the police. You don't run into me. I'm a citizen here, you're not. You're an ugly f***ing foreigner. F*** you."
In commentary afterward, Morris said he was born in Massachusetts, and he held up his passport.
"It was so surreal," he told CNN. "Thankfully, I had started vlogging a few months before so I had turned my camera on and caught it all. He was threatening to call the cops, but he eventually walked away, and we realized it wasn't just a weird stunt."
The Fresh Kitchen video jolted his memory about the incident.
"I let it go and pretty much forgot about it until I was scrolling through Twitter yesterday and randomly saw a thumbnail and thought, 'No freaking way! '" Morris said.

Willow Smith Reveals Self Harming Past To Her Mother Jada Pinkett Smith ‘I Was Cutting Myself’

    Having the difficult conversations.

In a new episode of Red Table Talk, Willow Smith bravely opened up to her mother Jada Pinkett Smith and grandmother Adrienne Banfield-Jones about how she lost her "sanity" following the success of her hit song Whip My Hair back in 2010.

This dark period for the now 17-year-old led her to "cutting" herself. Wow.

    The singer revealed:

"It was after that whole ‘Whip My Hair' thing and I had just stopped doing singing lessons and I was kind of just in this gray area of, ‘Who am I? Do I have a purpose? Is there anything I can do besides this?'"

    She continued:

"After the tour and the promotion and all of that, they wanted me to finish my album. And I was like, I'm not gonna do that. And after all of that kinda settled down and it was like a kind of lull, I was just listening to a lot of dark music. It was just so crazy and I was plunged into this black hole, and I was cutting myself."

Jada and Adrienne were immediately very concerned, as they hadn't spotted any signs that Willow had been harming herself. Will Smith's wife asked:

"What? When were you cutting yourself? I didn’t see that part. Cutting yourself where?"

    The teen responded:

"On my wrist. I mean, you can’t even see it but there’s still a little something there. But like, totally lost my sanity for a moment there. I never talk about it because it was such a short weird point in my life. But you have to pull yourself out of it."

    Watch her emotional confession (below):

We applaud Willow for having the courage to join the conversation about mental health.

Jet Li Is UNRECOGNIZABLE In New Fan Photo After Years Suffering Effects Of Thyroid Condition!

Remember Jet Li, the action star known for his very physical roles in films like Lethal Weapon 4, Romeo Must Die, Hero, and The Forbidden Kingdom??

Sadly, it appears that the man you probably remember from the picture (above, from a 2010 movie release in China) is far from the reality living out the actor's life today.

News reports coming out of Hong Kong this week are revealing new pictures reportedly of the 55-year-old Expendables star, and he looks like someone 20 or 30 years older than you'd expect due to a litany of health conditions and issues that have plagued him over the last several decades.

Li has been suffering the last few years from hyperthyroidism (he was reportedly diagnosed in 2010) as well as a heart condition, and the combination has drastically aged the once-buff, dynamic film star to the point where fans are now shocked upon seeing pictures of him.

Take this picture, allegedly snapped very recently and showing Jet Li with an adoring fan (below):

    Um… WOW.

Li (on the right) is frail and weak — and completely unrecognizable from the vibrant man we'd all come to know from so many action flicks through the early 2000s.

Hard to believe, we know, but sadly not quite so far from his own most recent Instagram post just months ago:

Multiple health problems linked to long, rough days on set doing stunt work and action sequences have damaged Li's health; he has admitted his movements are very limited, and he can no longer stand for a long period of time without hunching over.

Worse yet, he has (reluctantly) completely withdrawn from filmmaking, effectively finding himself forced out of the business due to his health problems.

But it's his rapid aging — brought on by the hyperthyroidism among other conditions — that has fans shocked.

    Ugh.

Our hearts go out to Jet Li and his family. He's still just 55 years old — may he find peace, happiness, and good health for the rest of his life.

Drug-Resistant “Super Gonorrhea” Is On The Rise And Going Global

The ongoing arms race between germs and humans is seeing more and more cases of drug-resistant gonorrhea springing up across the world, according to international health agencies.

This grim sign of our times doesn’t just mean gonorrhea is becoming much harder to treat, it could also mean that this common STD will someday become incurable, at least with our current arsenal of drugs.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) has announced that recent months have seen a rise in the first global reports of “extensively drug-resistant” gonorrhea, with three new documented cases in Europe and Australia between February and March. The Australian Government's Department of Health released a similar statement last month, detailing two cases found in Queensland and Western Australia.

You may remember the recent case of a man in the UK who developed the “world’s worst” case of super gonorrhea after having sex with a woman in Southeast Asia. He eventually responded to a lesser-used type of antibiotic, however, his story appears to be the tip of the iceberg.

Much like the guy from the UK, at least one of the Australian patients acquired the infection in Southeast Asia. Although there are no official figures, the problem is particularly prevalent in certain corners of Asia. A recent study found that up to 19 percent of gonorrhea strains in China are now resistant to standard antibiotics.

Gonorrhea, one of the most common sexually transmitted infections after chlamydia, can be contracted by unprotected vaginal, oral, and anal sex, or sharing sex toys. Around 10 percent of men and 50 percent of women remain asymptomatic, but many people experience an unpleasant green or yellow discharge and pain while urinating. If left untreated it can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease in women and infertility in both sexes.

Typically, doctors treated this bacterial infection with two widely used antibiotics, azithromycin and ceftriaxone. However, it appears that more and more strains of the bacteria have evolved a resistance to these drugs. Lesser-used antibiotics are proving useful as a last-ditch treatment, but their days are numbered.

The issue of “super gonorrhea” points to a much bigger threat to humans: the specter of drug-resistant superbugs. For over 70 years, humans have heavily relied on antibiotics and antimicrobial agents to fight bacterial infections. Due to this widespread overuse, many infectious organisms have adapted and evolved resistance to the drugs, making them less effective.

By 2050, these infections could kill over 10 million people each year worldwide. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention note at least 18 drug-resistant threats to the US. One of the top 3 most urgent threats is Neisseria gonorrhoeae, the bacteria responsible for gonorrhea.

It all sounds a bit worrying, but it’s worth remembering that gonorrhea is fairly easy to prevent: practice safe sex and wear a condom.
