It’s safe to say that the scheduled fight between UFC fighter Conor McGregor and boxer Floyd Mayweather is one of the most keenly anticipated matches of all time. Absolutely everyone has been talking about the bout, and the world of martial arts and pugilism is completely divided over who will knock out whom.

Suffice to say, I’m completely uncertain myself. It could go either way, and in many respects, the two men have a lot more in common than they give each other credit for, even though they’re very different kinds of fighter. They’re both in their prime, at the peak of their powers, and are renowned for their technical skill as much as their insane training regimes and dedication to honing their brutal skills. But aside from that, Mayweather and McGregor are also well-known for their larger-than-life personalities and supreme self-confidence. They like to party long and hard and go on insane spending sprees when they win big bucks, and they like to aggressively intimidate their opponent before the first bell rings. I guess it’s true what they say: a fight is nine tenths psychological. That’s probably why the pre-match trash talk has been so uncompromising and protracted. This is definitely a grudge match, and both fighters have made it clear that they’re willing to risk it all and go the distance to put send the other man to sleep. However this week McGregor has shown that he’s really willing to put his money where his mouth is, and for one it doesn’t look like posturing braggadocio. Conor McGregor has just made an insane bet on himself to win the scheduled match, and the amount of cash at stake is guaranteed to make your heart leap.

The Irish Fighter is apparently so confident that he’ll be able to knock out Floyd Mayweather, that he’s bet nearly 1 million Euro on himself to win. The Dubliner will finally square off against Mayweatheron August 26 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. He’s apparently gone so far as to state plainly: “I will knock this man outside inside four rounds.” He’s even encouraging friends and family to do the same, stating that it’s “easy money.” It’s a lot of money is what it is Conor. Jeez. A source a close to McGregor toldthe Irish Sun, “Conor is as confident as ever ahead of his fight and he’s prepared to put his money where his mouth is.The message to his friends and family has been simple from Conor, he’s telling them to get rich off his back. He has told a lot of people to back him if they want to earn some easy money.”

The same source added, “They will have been reassured by the fact that he says he’s putting 1 million on himself to win, that’s how confident he is. We know how accurate Conor’s predictions have been in the past and that’s why people close to him will find his tip hard to ignore.” Even if McGregor loses the match, he’s already made so much money in ticket sales alone that it won’t even touch his overall revenue. He’s already made an insane amount of cash off the back of this battle.

Arizona Man Finds Spider-Scorpion Hybrid And None Of Us Will Ever Sleep Again

As the old saying “ignorance is bliss” reminds us, there are some things in this world that we would all be so much happier not knowing about. Nuclear warfare? What’s that! Global warming? That’s not a thing! A Spider-scorpion hybrid? Wait… does that actually exist?

The extremely unfortunate answer to that horrific question is yes, spider-scorpion hybrids are a real thing, and one poor poor man in Arizona had to find that out for himself when he found one near his house. And this isn’t one of those cases where you hear “spider-scorpion hybrid” but it really just turns out to just be a somewhat scary-looking (but innocent) spider. No, this thing is genuinely cousins to both the common spider and the desert scorpion… so good luck sleeping tonight. The camel spider, also known as a wind scorpion (could these names get any scarier?), possesses traits of both a spider and a scorpion. While it definitely qualifies as an “arachnid”, the camel spider also has strong pinchers and an extremely large jaw, making it a bit more closely related to a scorpion. Thomas Acosta, a builder, recently came across the creature near his home in Phoenix, Arizona, where he has lived (camel spider-free) for the past 37 years. He told KGun9:“‘I didn’t know they are native to Arizona, I have seen camel spiders, but I heard of them in Iraq.” Below is the exact spider that Thomas found: Though they appear to have 10 legs, the camel spider technically only has eight, as the other two leg-like appendages are actually chelicerae. Chelicerae are the spider’s mouth, and are used to transfer sperm into a female spider’s gonopore, or reproductive tract. Lovely! If that wasn’t enough to make you shudder, the spider also flaunts the largest jaw-to-body ratio of any known animal, so just imagine how wide it can open its mouth! Fantastic! Because of its gigantic jaw, the camel spider can grow large enough to eat small lizards, rodents, and even birds. It was for this reason that Thomas said he would be seeking out an exterminator immediately, citing: “We do have a small pet, and I wouldn’t want anything to hurt her, she’s kind of old.” Yeah, Thomas, no kidding. If you didn’t get an exterminator then we would be seriously concerned about your well-being. The good news (kind of) is that although they look absolutely terrifying, camel spiders actually are not venomous, so if you ever come across one, it is unlikely to hurt you in any way. Which, frankly, will not be that comforting of information to know if you do encounter one of these beasts, and will probably not be enough to keep you from screaming like a four-year-old and running away with tears in your eyes. If you’ve come to the end of this and have the sensation that a thousand ghost spiders are crawling over your body, then welcome to the joyous world of arachnophobia! One this is for sure: I can barely handle killing the minuscule spiders that I find in my home on occasion, I certainly would never recover from seeing a camel spider in person. Whelp, guess I’ll never get to know what Arizona is like.

My husband was leading a double life. How I fell apart, then found strength.

A few weeks after giving birth to my first baby, I was wracked with pain to the point that I could barely move.

Swinging my legs, one after another, out of bed took nearly all my willpower. This pain had nothing to do with the physical stress of childbirth or the stitches still holding my swollen private area together.

This pain came from a place so deep within me that I could not determine where the pain ended and I began. We were intertwined. It was all-consuming.

It felt as if half of my DNA had been ripped out of my body and I was left with a dangling half-strand.

Until that moment, I hadn't realized that my husband had become a part of me. Now, in his absence, I felt an emptiness where he had been. I knew I would never be whole again.

In Wired to Create: Unraveling the Mysteries of the Creative Mind, psychologist Scott Barry Kaufman and writer Carolyn Gregoire explore what happens in the aftermath of a traumatic event:

The more we are shaken, the more we must let go of our former selves and assumptions, and begin again from the ground up. ... Rebuilding can be an incredibly challenging process. ... It can be grueling, excruciating, and exhausting. But it can open the door to a new life.

I know that door.

I found out my husband was leading a double life almost immediately after I gave birth to my daughter.

There was another girlfriend, and a secret credit card. Then other women started to come forward.

I was suddenly on my own with a newborn baby. I grieved him, and the future I thought we would have together, like a death.

While these have been without a doubt the most difficult months of my life, there was also something incredibly freeing in being ripped to shreds and then rebuilding myself piece by piece.

I told my therapist that everything seemed somehow clearer. I feel like the human interactions I do have are very genuine now. I used to make kind of superficial small talk a lot, and I dont do that anymore. I cant really explain it. I just feel like I see people now.

She told me that these moments of clarity are made possible precisely because you no longer have room for a lot of the crap you used to spend so much time thinking about. You are stripped clean.

Youve always possessed this power. Maybe you just never knew how to access it.

Before experiencing trauma, I cared very much what people thought of me, from close family and friends to strangers. I had trouble making decisions because I wanted to please everyone. Even navigating a grocery store could be stressful all those strangers silently observing and judging me.

Then, for months, I was trapped in my own body, forced to sit in the pain. Let me be clear. When I say sit in the pain I mean not running into someone elses arms, not getting sloshed every night, and not hiding behind work.

Being trapped in my body meant that I couldnt run from the darkness or try to do whatever it took to feel good again.

We humans naturally try to avoid feelings of discomfort especially today, when instant gratification is just a click away on social media or a swipe away on an online dating app, when endorphins can be produced and manipulated simply by picking up an iPhone. People are even less likely to be still. To just feel.

But as I sat in my pain, I slowly started to trust my own intuition. I became grounded in a very clear sense of self.

When you begin to truly trust and like yourself, you tap into an immense amount of power.

Youve always possessed this power. Maybe you just never knew how to access it. You find a power within yourself thats like an anchor, freeing you from a lot of lifes insecurities that seemed so important before.

Dr. Sharon Dekel says, Post-traumatic growth can be defined as a workable coping mechanism, a way of making and finding meaning involved in the building of a more positive self-image and the perception of personal strength."

The other side of pain is not comfort, or health, or well-being. It is truth.

When this truth comes pouring in, you begin to see all the grimy layers of protection lift away, and you discover that your journey has just begun. You begin to let the light in and, whats more, you begin to seek out the light.

One morning I woke up and had a sudden realization. The thought entered my mind like a lightning bolt:

You were always whole to begin with.

So as much as I sometimes want to scream and rage at my ex-husband, I also want to thank him. I want to thank him for forcing me to become the person I was always meant to be, for showing me that I am a fighter and that I will never give up.

But most importantly, I thank him for allowing me to become this person before my daughter ever knew anyone else.
