On July 22, a Zanesville, Ohio resident named Dorthy Holmes posted these photos on Twitter showing her BFF Chelsie Collins sitting alone and looking forlorn in an empty party room at a Golden Corral.
In a since-deleted post, Holmes said that the event was scheduled for noon on Saturday, and although they invited over 70 people, no one except Holmes, her boyfriend, and Collins showed up.
She claimed that the trio waited an hour and a half, finally deciding to leave at 1:30 p.m.
Almost immediately after the pictures were posted, Twitter jumped into action.
Tons of users started expressing their outrage over the incident.
Comment after comment contained words of support. Some shared their own similar sad stories.
The number of outraged responses to this sad event grew to over 16,000.
The tweets were a mix of anger and support, and Collins made a statement of appreciation about the outpour of love.
At first I was sad, I felt embarrassed and alone. Then when I heard about the online support it made me feel so much better. There [are] so many supporters from Twitter to Facebook and Im thankful for that,” she told the Irish Examiner.
Since strangers on the Internet can sometimes be wonderfully generous, users began asking for contact information for Collins.
Many wanted to send gifts, or make a donation to help with her future bundle of joy.
It wasn’t long untilHolmes provided the Twittersphere with her PayPal info and the money came pouring in.
In another since-deleted post, Collins' baby registry was also made public. The support was endless.
Over 333 items have been bought from the registry since the information was shared.
All purchases were made from concerned strangers looking to brighten this pregnant 19-year-old’s day.
