Chris Meadows had no idea that his act of generosity was about to grow into something more.
Chris had heardthat a friend of his, James Reid, had his family car broken into. As if a break-in isn’t devastating enough, the culprit stole a few things from the vehicle, including softball equipment belonging to James’ daughter, Abrey.
“They broke her heart and they said she was up all night crying,” Chris says in the video below, posted on October 20, 2016.
After realizing how much the theft would affect 6-year-old Abrey’s softball season, Chris decided to step in. Out of the kindness of his heart, he purchased $400 worth of new gear for his friend’s daughter, all so she could continue to play.
He continues, “I just couldn’t live with myself like that because I got small kids too and I know if I couldn’t do what I did, I’d wish someone was there for me to help us out.”
James was grateful for his friend’s giving spirit and wanted to honor him for it. He contacted KFOR’s Pay It 4Ward program and told them what Chris had done for his little girl.
“It was very generous, something he didn’t have to do and [we're] very grateful for it,” James says about his pal, with a smile. “He really went out of his way. He didn’t cut cost on anything.”
Abrey was able to continue playing the sport she loved so much, all thanks to Chris.
“I feel that was nice because he bought all the stuff for me,” she says.
The Reids invited Chris to Abrey’s softball game to show their gratitude. Little did Chris know, he was about to feel just how thankful the family was for histhoughtful act.
In the video, a well-dressed man calls Chris out onto the field from the stands. He has a special gift for the man who changedthe Reids’ upsetting situation into a positive one.
