Just when you thought the world was a terrible place and kindness was in short supply, a heartwarming story has come out of Knoxville, Tennessee. It involves a young boy who has been tormented at school and dozens of Hollywood celebrities coming to his aid.
Keaton Jones asked his mother to film a video of him speaking out against the bullies at his school who make his life miserable on a daily basis. The heartbreaking video was filmed in his mother’s car after he asked her to pick him up from school because he was afraid to go to lunch.
“They make fun of my nose. They call me ugly. They say I have no friends,” Keaton says, trying to hold back his tears. The bullies “put milk on me and put ham down my clothes, throw bread on me,” he added.
Keaton then shows an incredible amount of maturity for someone his age when he takes a stand for all kids who have been bullied and asks why anyone would want to be so cruel.
“Just out of curiosity, why do they bully? What’s the point of it?” Keaton asks. “Why do you find joy in taking innocent people and finding a way to be mean to them. It’s not okay.”
“I don’t like that they do it to me and I for sure don’t like that they do it to other people because it’s not okay. People that are different don’t need to be criticized for it. It’s not their fault. If you are made fun of just don’t let it bother you. Stay strong I guess. It’s hard.”
Keaton concludes the video by saying he knows it will “probably get better one day”, but it’s difficult to watch the young boy clearly suffering so much now. Thankfully, however, something good has come of Keaton’s bravery.
The video, which has since gone viral, was posted to Facebook by Keaton’s mom on Friday and has gotten over 16 million views. It has also attracted the attention of many celebrities who reached out to Keaton to offer their support. “Stay strong, Keaton,” Chris Evans wrote. “Don’t let them make you turn cold. I promise it gets better. While those punks at your school are deciding what kind of people they want to be in this world, how would you and your mom like to come to the Avengers premiere in LA?” “I #StandWithKeaton. Keaton baby, just know you’re not alone. There are so many people who come out of bullying much stronger and you will be one of them!!” Demi Lovato wrote. “God bless you sweetheart.” Keaton has received personal messages from Millie Bobby Brown, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Hailee Steinfeld, Demi Lovato, Katy Perry, and Justin Beiber to name just a few. He has received invites to the next Avengers premiere from Evans AND Ruffalo, while Steinfeld has asked him to be her date for her next movie premiere. Keaton has also been offered a trip to Las Vegas to the UFC headquarters, and a backstage tour of the Fox & Friends set. In fact, Donald Trump Jr. made him a generous offer too! Celebrity support continues to pour in, with many big names choosing to post their messages publicly on Twitter, including Ryan Seacrest, Will Poulter, Terry Crews, Jaimie Alexander, Patricia Arquette, and Ed Asner. Keaton’s mother is overwhelmed with the outpouring of support. She posted on Facebook, “Friends, overwhelmed is the understatement of the world right now. I’m humbled by the voice my boy has been given, but he’s still just a little boy & he’s a little boy who desperately wants acceptance, that I have to try to find a way to navigate him through the difference in true acceptance & attention.”
“I know God has His hand in this, [and] I trust that the right things will happen in the right time.”
You can watch Keaton’s original video here: Keaton is standing up for something he believes in and deserves the attention he is receiving. Going to the Avengers premiere is way better than pouring milk on someone any day! Want another story with a happy ending? Check out the video below. We all know cats can be bullies, but see what happens when an adorable French bulldog takes a stand to get his bed back from one mean old kitty. Hopefully, the public support will help put an end to Keaton’s bullying and show that bullies never win in the end.
