In 2008, Trina’s mother Linda passed away from cancer. Trina and her husband, Michael, decided to keep Linda’s remains in their car, as they haven’t had a permanent place to call home.
For years, the couple from Waconia, Minnesota, has been either homeless, living with friends, or living in hotels. “We wouldn’t lose [the ashes] for not being able to pay our storage bill,” Trina told FOX9. “It wouldn’t get ruined by being exposed to the elements and it was with us all the time.”
But in 2017, Michael went out to his car and realized someone had broken into it. Their belongings were thrown around and his wallet was stolen. Trina and Michael were sympathetic to whoever did this, as they know firsthand what it’s like to be desperate for money. However, the most precious item of all the box containing Linda’s ashes was also gone.
Devastated, Trina and Michael went public with their story, hoping someone somewhere would find the black box of cremains and return it, no questions asked. Michael constantly checked his messages and frequently searched the entire area. But they were quickly losing hope.
The heartbroken couple had no idea that a criminal offender, whom they had never met before, was about to come into their lives in the most unexpected way.
