After the whole Rachel Dolezal debacle, no discussion on race in the media can possibly surprise me anymore. In case you’ve already forgotten, Rachel Dolezal was the genetically white-caucasian woman who claimed to identify as a black person.

In fact, for over a decade almost everyone she knew thought that she was, in fact, an African American woman. However, she’s certainly not the only genetically white woman who maintains that she is a black woman. In fact, German-born glamor model, Martina Big has blown Rachel out of the water in terms of her dedication towards transforming herself into her own image of a black woman.

During an appearance on The Maury Show, she expanded on her desire to be regarded as a black woman:

“I am black. That is my race. I can’t wait to go to Africa because I hear the food is tasty. It’s better to be black, the feeling inside is just better. I am the proud owner of black skin. If it starts fading, I won’t feel less black. I will ask them for more.”

This is what Martina looked like before she became a “proud owner of black skin”: In case you are wondering how her skin came to be so dark, well, it wasn’t from a few too many sessions in the tanning bed. She achieved her dark brown color with a series of melanin injection treatments when she was in the US. Of course there are many people who are appalled by Martina, believing her to be a modern-day endorser of blackface. However, Martina begs to differ:

“No I don’t want to [cause offence]. I know some feel attacked, but it’s not my intention. I do it for myself and only talk to people who want to talk with me about this.”

According to Martina, her desire for dark skin is rooted in the sunburn her father developed on vacation:

“We drove, for example, once with the car non-stop from the Eifel to the Cote d’Azur, simply to get out of the rain and into the sun. My father was so tired after the drive that he slept the entire day on the beach and burnt his entire back. But the red quickly turned into brown. When I now look at my dark brown skin, I think of this.” Martina has also spent a whopping $68,000 on breast enlargement surgery. She now owns a pair of 32 S breasts, and it is thought that she has the largest chest in the whole of Europe.

“And I wanted to enlarge my breasts. At least to 2,000 grammes. Then the airline told me, either you stay here or you chose your breasts.  To be able to carry the load, I do an hour long back and breast training every second day.When the difference between above and below gets 2 inches bigger, I will have the biggest breasts in the world and will be in the Guinness Book.”

Rachel Dolezal may have been the one woman who brought the concept of “trans-racialism” to worldwide attention, but Matina Big has certainly intensified the discussion! The image above shows Martina with her fiancee, Michael, who is also having injections to make his skin darker – because couples that change race together, stay together! I am firmly of the opinion that people should be able to do what they want with their own bodies, however, understandably Martina’s psychological health has been called into question. But then again if she’s happy, and she certainly appears to be, then I suppose in the grand scheme of things that’s all that matters.
